SMX Collective is a grassroot organization of Dutch and Mexican activists, academics, artists, journalists, curators and researchers concerned about the extreme impunity and violence suffered by Mexican people, and who are, from the Netherlands and Europe, pushing for positive change in Mexico.
We are motived and united by the knowledge of the systemic human rights abuses in Mexico and our main goal is to make the international law responsive to Mexico.
What we stand for
Our work is guided by our wish to see real democracy, social justice and human dignity in Mexico. In this struggle, we especially value the rights of women, indigenous peoples, migrants, and the Mexican 99%
In a country faced with a failing legal system, we aim to influence international policy making and put legal and political mechanisms to work in order for justice to be served. In addition, our goal is to expose those governments and international companies involved with actors and institutions responsible for Mexico’s systemic impunity and violence, and call upon them to stop contributing to the country’s human rights crisis.
SMX Collective’s three pillars
- Strategies for Justice: Supporting, guiding and initiating (legal) actions and strategic litigation.
- Research and Analysis: Supporting, guiding and initiating research projects and informing policy makers.
- Awareness Raising: Supporting, guiding and initiating awareness raising campaigns, educational events and engaged art projects.
